About OrthoKey:
OrthoKey is a solution consisting of a loading device (Loading Device) and diagnostic software that helps orthopedists and patients with suspected knee replacement loosening to make a correct diagnosis. Current methodology for diagnosis is not accurate, time consuming and costly. OrthoKey is based on innovation from AMC Hospital. It significantly increases diagnostic accuracy and reduces the number of unnecessary revision (repair) operations. This is particularly important since knee replacement procedures are rapidly growing in number and an aging population with as few complications as possible and at the lowest cost.
Solution:
On the knee, with the help of a loading device, a force is imposed in different directions (so-called Varus and Valgus position). As a result the prosthetic component displaces relative to the bone. At both loading positions, a standard CT scan of the knee is performed. These CT images are analyzed by software developed by the UAMC. For this purpose, an innovative algorithm is used which is not sensitive toCT imaging artifacts caused by a metal implant. The method can be applied to any prosthetic design and does not require an a priori knowledge of the prosthesis geometry nor of the bone.
